In a Bag
About Us
In late September of 2019, in the city of London, Ontario, an unassuming bag apparated in Fanshawe College’s Artist Development Centre. From this bag sprang 5 musicians -
vocalist Greg Burkell, guitarist Callum Furneaux, keyboardist
Mitch Outerbridge, bassist Jesse Grant, and drummer Odie Vokes.
Newly created and equipped only with their instruments, and Greg with a floor-length fur coat, the five musicians did the only thing they knew - they jammed. The music they made was catchy, thought-provoking, and most importantly, super vibey, combining a wide variety of inspirations including The National, Tame Impala, Gorillaz, Arcade Fire, Mura Masa, and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard. This fateful occurrence brought about what would become an incredibly important event in musical history... the formation of In a Bag.
That first jam would be one of many as the tote-birthed boys began to hone their sound, settling into quirky alt-rock, a la Peach Pit, Men I Trust, and The Zolas. However, the sonic aspect of the music is just as important to these lads as the visual aspect, shown best by the antics of frontman Greg Burkell - blurring the lines between musical performance and performance art. The element of surprise is ever-present in every aspect of the band’s existence, making for an exciting, eclectic experience.
